Port Douglas Carnivale

Welcome to Carnivale 2016!

Now in its 22nd year, Carnivale celebrates the best of Tropical North Queensland from the bounty of the sea, abundant fresh produce and world class wines, to talented local artists, musicians and performers.

Held in one of the most beautiful parts of the world and attracting tens of thousands of local, interstate and international visitors, Port Douglas Carnivale was originally held to mark the start of the sugar cane harvesting season, but is now considered the official opening of the tourism season. A mecca for lovers of all things food, fun and sun, Carnivale is a must do on anyone’s bucket list.

This year, Port Douglas Carnivale presents a wide variety of thrilling new events including the star attraction of the Wonderland Spiegeltent as a feature Festival Hub venue. “Spiegeltent” is Dutch for “mirror tent” and these Belgian travelling dance halls have been graced by stars such as Edith Piaff and Marlene Dietrich over the decades. With its opulent and nostalgic ambiance, colourful stained glass windows and warm wood furnishings, the Wonderland Spiegeltent will showcase a lively program of thrilling physical circus, vivacious cabaret, sizzling burlesque and hilarious comedy acts.

Debuting this year is the Port On A Fork Food & Wine Festival where local chefs will be presenting their signature dish uniquely inspired by the gourmet delights of the region.

Plus Paradise on a Plate, this year’s Longest Lunch exclusive dining held in the Spiegeltent and under the palms of Dixie Park, a fusion of performance and food will have your mouth watering for more.

‘Wonders Of The World’ Macrossan Street Parade has long been the opening highlight of Port Douglas Carnivale and regularly draws eager crowds of thousands.
